What is the Team Harmony Action Institute and Rally?

Four days that will bring together student leaders from around our country to provide them with the skills needed to create positive change in their schools and communities. Students will be engaged in workshops, discussions and activities that will focus on leadership development, network building, community building and so much more! If you have a school team that wants to lead the efforts in promoting racial harmony and social justice, join us in Tulsa!

 

Who is eligible to attend this program?

We are looking for motivated high school students (freshmen, sophomores, and juniors) to attend this program. Students who are passionate about racial and social justice and want to learn how to make positive change should apply! All school teams MUST have an adult chaperone/teacher. Teams should reflect the diversity of their school and community. The limit per school is one chaperone/teacher and 5 students.

 

What is considered a School Team?

Team Harmony is looking to assemble, educate, train and engage up to 50 teams of high school student leaders from around the country committed to promoting racial harmony and social justice. Each team should be comprised of up to 6 diverse and committed students looking to make a difference in their school and community. Each team must be accompanied by a school educator equally committed to the mission. Every team will be tasked to develop an Action Plan that they will implement upon their return home.

 

Will students and teachers/chaperones receive a certificate for participating in the Team Harmony Action Institute and Rally?

Yes! All participants who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate.

 

Is there a cost to attend this program?

No, this is a FREE program. However, school teams are responsible for their roundtrip transportation and/or air travel to Tulsa, OK. Once you are in Tulsa the cost  for all program related activities, hotel stay and meals are covered by Team Harmony. NOTE: school teams are responsible for snacks outside of the meals offered (see question below).  Each school team will be provided with three hotel rooms. The rooms are designated for one chaperone/teacher and two rooms for students.

 

Our school team reserved our space. Does this mean we are accepted into the program?

No. The space reservation simply indicates you are interested in receiving more information about the program. Team Harmony will provide your school contact with a link to a team application. This application will require complete team details including student names, areas of interest and answers to short essay questions. The link to the team application will be sent within 72 hours of receiving your space reservation.


Where will school teams be staying? 

Given the number of school teams expected at this event, we have secured three host hotels. School teams will be assigned based on availability. 

  • Hyatt Regency Tulsa Downtown Hotel (main host hotel)

  • Hyatt Place 

  • Hampton Inn and Suites 

  • Marriot Courtyard

Is there a host hotel where the sessions will take place?

Yes, the program activities, sessions and meals will take place at the Hyatt Regency Tulsa Downtown Hotel. This hotel is a short walking distance from the other three delegation hotels. 

When will we know which hotel we have been assigned?

All school teams will be notified by Wednesday, April 19.  

Will students share a hotel room?

School teams will be provided with three rooms – one for the chaperone/teacher and two student rooms. The school contact will be responsible for assigning students to each room.

Once submitted, room changes are not permitted.

 

Will students and chaperones/teachers be on the same hotel floor?

Yes, teachers and their students will be assigned to the same floor.

 

Can students or chaperones/teachers charge expenses to their hotel room?

No charges can be made to the room. A 24-hour small convenience store is located on the lower level in the hotel lobby.

 

Can we use the pool or gym while we are at the hotel?

No, it is strictly prohibited for any Team Harmony guests or participants to use the pool or gym.

 

Can students gather in each other’s rooms?

No, students are prohibited from gathering in guest rooms. If students want to gather it must be in designated hotel spaces including the hotel lobby areas.

 

Is there a hotel shuttle from the airport?

The Hyatt Regency Hotel does offer a shuttle from the airport to the hotel. This service is separate from the Team Harmony program. We recommend you contact the hotel directly for more information. The hotel is approximately 15 mins from the airport.

What meals will be covered while the students are in Tulsa?

Team Harmony will cover the following meals during the progam days: *Times subject to change.

    Dinner:  6:00 PM 

    Reception at 7:30 PM - Light refreshments 

  • Tuesday, May 9

    Breakfast: 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM 

    Lunch: 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM 

    Dinner:  5:00 PM to 6:00 PM 

  • Wednesday, May 10 

    Breakfast: 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM

    Lunch: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM

    Afternoon refreshments: 2:45 PM - 3:45 PM 

    Dinner: 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

  • Thursday, May 11 (Travel Day)

    Breakfast: 7:00 AM to 9:30 AM

    Participants with dietary restrictions will be provided alternative meals. Please be sure to make note of the dietary restrictions in your application. We cannot accommodate special meal requests on site. Participants are responsible for additional snacks and refreshments.

Will there be free time to explore Tulsa, OK?

Participants are required to attend all program sessions, events, and activities. It is up to the discretion of your school’s chaperone/teacher to schedule activities outside of the programming times.

 

Is there a dress code?

We do not have a dress code. We recommend comfortable clothing and shoes. Tulsa’s weather can fluctuate quickly. Check the weather and pack accordingly.
